ABOUT THE FIRM

AN OVERVIEW OF OUR PRACTICE - PAST AND PRESENT

HYZER, HYZER & JACOBS was founded in 1976 by Keith Hyzer. Keith began his legal career in 1958 and was a partner in one of Rockford's oldest firms prior to establishing his own law office.

In establishing his firm, Keith sought to provide traditional, high quality legal services in a congenial, non-intimidating atmosphere designed to meet the needs of his clients. Partner Nancy Hyzer joined the firm in 1984, Partner Erik K. Jacobs joined the firm in 1999 and in 2005, the firm added Kaycee I. Chadwick as an associate.

The firm remains committed to the principle of providing quality and personalized services to our individual and business clients. Those services include residential and commercial real estate transactions and development, zoning, business formation and sales, corporate, civil litigation, personal injury, and wrongful death. For our individual clients, those services also include estate planning and estate administration.

The firm is perhaps best known for its practice in real estate and real estate related matters by reason of its representation of the Rockford Area Association of Realtors and representation of sellers and buyers in residential and commercial real estate transactions. Yet we also represent approximately 125 corporations and limited liability companies, including architectural, engineering, real estate and real estate development, manufacturing, and retail. Today our practice is divided among real estate transactions, business formations, sales and purchases, estate planning and administration, and civil litigation. Erik strengthens the civil litigation area of our practice and has allowed us to expand our services to include personal injury and wrongful death litigation. Keith has been general counsel for Rockford Area Association of Realtors for over 30 years. Nancy is recognized for her experience in representing developers, and boards of condominium and common interest communities. Kaycee’s transactional practice includes real estate, estate planning and business formation and representation. Her civil litigation practice includes personal injury and wrongful death, real estate litigation and construction, and contract and business litigation.

We are proud of our legal support staff who have many years of legal experience and have at their disposal modern legal technology and equipment to enhance the firm's ability to produce quality documents in reasonable time periods. Our offices located at 855 North Madison Street were designed especially for our use and are conveniently located near the intersection of Y Boulevard and North Madison Street.

Each day we seek to provide competent legal counsel and quality services from an experienced group of professionals and staff while providing the personal attention offered by a small firm.
